Martyn’s Law, The Protect Duty:

The Manchester Arena bombing in 2017 spurred Figen Murray, Mother of Martyn Hett, to lobby for change in how the safety measures of public spaces are approached, the result being the Protect Duty legislation.

The legislation focuses on how public safety strategies are developed in partnership with government agencies and business owners, and their obligations to ensure plans are formalised.

Prevent Workshops

The Counter Terrorism Act 2015 introduced authorities’ duty to prevent people from being drawn into extremism, in 2016, company director Ian worked in partnership with Cambridgeshire Constabulary to deliver workshops to community groups raising awareness of Prevent, providing staff and service users with the knowledge required to understand what extremism looks like, how people are drawn into extremist idealisation, and who to contact with concerns.

ACT and ACT for Security

The Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) Awareness e-Learning is open to anyone who wants to become a CT Citizen so they can learn how to spot the signs of suspicious behaviour and understand what to do in the event of a major incident.

ACT Awareness e-Learning will provide nationally recognised corporate counter terrorism guidance to help people better understand, and mitigate against, current terrorist methodology.

The e-Learning covers the following modules:

2. Identifying Security Vulnerabilities
3. How to Identify and Respond to Suspicious Behaviour
4. How to Identify and Deal with a Suspicious Item
5. What to do in the Event of a Bomb Threat

ACT has now become an industry standard for operatives, and all of our operatives have undertaken the ACT e-Learning specific for security professionals.

We recommend the ACT course as a useful piece of free training for anyone regardless of the sector they work in.

Behavioural Detection and Surveillance

What is behavioural detection?

The methods of detecting individuals with hostile intentions by way of observing their behaviour and activities (Gov.UK)

When considering your organisations’ obligation under the Protect Duty, you may want to consider utilising behavioural detection professionals to work covertly amongst overt security teams.

Our operatives are highly skilled and trained security professionals with expertise in surveillance, many of which have experience in police or military counter terrorism operations.

It is worth noting that when the term ‘hostile intentions’ is used, this does not always refer to those with intentions of carrying out acts of terrorism, this can also relate to pickpockets, shoplifters, or individuals with other malicious intentions.

We would recommend that behavioural detection is only considered in addition to existing robust security teams and is not seen as sole security measure.

Physical Penetration Testing

Physical penetration test is a great way to expose weaknesses and vulnerabilities in physical controls (locks, barriers, cameras, or sensors) within your business, or premises so that flaws can be quickly addressed.

Our highly trained penetration testers would use scenarios in relation to your business to attempt to carry out malicious actions such as gaining access to protected areas, accessing sensitive information, stealing assets etc.

Physical evidence and a documented report would be provided at the end of the exercise with recommendation as deemed necessary, we would then work with you to put any additional measures in place.
